A study of a technique called “Flemish” was used with this creation of oil on canvas. You paint from a gray value study, then apply layers of transparent washes on top, layer by later. The reference for In the Kitchen is memories from by Grandmother cooking in the kitchen. She would fry most of her foods in this iron skillet. My Grandmother, my Mother, and now I, still fry the best fried chicken in this skillet.
My mouth waters at the smell of my grandmother’s cooking,
To sneak a taste without her looking,
The crispy fried chicken,
The smells of the kitchen.
